It is chosen against measurable criteria: target lux for the task, colour rendering (Ra/CRI), glare control (UGR), colour temperature, and compliance with standards such as EN 12464-1 for workplaces. How many lux does a commercial space need?
EN 12464-1 sets the maintained minimums: 300 lx on retail and supermarket sales areas (500 lx at tills), 100 lx for warehouse storage and 300 lx where packing happens, 500 lx at UGR 19 in offices, and 300 lx as the base in showrooms with Ra 90 accent on displays. Are your commercial fixtures compliant for the UK and EU?
